612 Porcelain ave
The first film by Alberta Ballet Canada taking dance performance offstage and into the community. 612 Porcelain Ave was filmed at the remarakble Medicine Hat Brick and Tile factory in the Medalta Historic Clay Distric in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The digital dance film captures the breath-taking artistry of Alberta Ballet’s dancers in new and unexpected settings, while highlighting remarkable landmarks across Alberta along the way.
META was honoured to work with the exceptionally talented group of producers and artists at the Alberta Ballet, producing and directing this first film. Working hand in hand with Christopher Anderson and Hanan Chebib, the scenes were planned over months of preparation and working hand in hand with The Medicine Hat Brick and Tile Factory.
The location provided beautifully settings for each of the dancers and performances. The Medicine Hat Brick and Tile Factory was built in 1913. Because of its proximity to the railway, the discovery of natural gas and a seemingly endless supply of clay, it came to produce ¾ of Canada's ceramics.⠀
The performances were shot over the course of two days on location with Steadicam, jib arm and gimbal camera set ups. The scenes were connected by both the choreography and camera movement that tied the dancers together throughout the space while dancing to Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy.
